Begin your guided Mexico tour and vacation by visiting two beautiful colonial cities: Puebla and Oaxaca. Later on, travel to the highlands of Chiapas and see the impressive steep-walled Sumidero Canyon! You’ll likely see vast flocks of flamingos, pelicans, and other waterfowl, as well as crocodiles.

But no trip to Mexico would be complete without visiting the Maya temples of Palenque and Chichen Itza, the latter recently voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guided Mexico tour ends in Cancun where you can add a beach extension.

DAY 1

MEXICO CITY – PUEBLA – OAXACA (-)

Pick up from your Mexico City hotel (we suggest adding 1 or 2 pre-nights in Mexico City) by your tour guide. Start of your guided Mexico tour. Transfer to the colonial city of Puebla. It features more than 70 churches and 1000 colonial buildings in the historical center. En route, visit the pyramid of Cholula. It looks like a hill with a church on top. Continue to Oaxaca, another colonial jewel of Mexico.

DAY 2

OAXACA (B)

Short drive to Monte Albán, built on a flattened hilltop overlooking the Oaxaca valley. For 2000 years, it was the center of the Zapotecan and Mixtecan cultures. In the afternoon, visit of Oaxaca including baroque church Santo Domingo and its monastery.

 

 

DAY 3

OAXACA – MITLA – TULE – TEHUANTEPEC (B)

Visit Mitla, “The City of the Dead”. Its architecture is not monumental but exquisite. The stone mosaics are unique in the world. En-route you will see the ancient Tule tree. It is approximately 2,000 years old, and one of the largest ones to be found anywhere on earth. Afterward, drive over the Sierra Madre mountains to Tehuantepec.

DAY 4

TEHUANTEPEC – SUMIDERO CANYON – SAN CRISTOBAL (B)

Transfer through the subtropical landscape from the Isthmus of Mexico to the highlands of Chiapas. By noon, arrival in Cahuare located on the mighty Grijalva River. By boat, you will visit the impressive Sumidero canyon with its over 3000-feet towering walls and 18-miles length. Afternoon transfer to San Cristóbal de las Casas.

DAY 5

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS (B)

Guided tour of San Cristóbal de las Casas. It is a colonial and beautiful city with narrow streets, Spanish residences, and shady plazas. Visit the indigenous market, the Temple of Santo Domingo, and the Amber Museum. Afternoon tour the Tzotzil towns of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán. The evening is free to enjoy the city.

 

 

DAY 6

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS – AGUA AZUL – PALENQUE (B)

Today your guided Mexico tour continues to the lowland of Chiapas, to Palenque. En route, you will stop at Mexico’s most beautiful waterfalls Agua Azul and the impressive falls Misol-Ha.

DAY 7

PALENQUE – CAMPECHE (B)

Visit the magical archaeological zone of Palenque, built amidst a lush tropical forest. Admire the famous Temple of Inscriptions with the tomb of ruler Pakal. Explore the unique Palace with its characteristic observatory tower. Stop at the Temple of the Cross offering a spectacular view over Palenque. Afternoon transfer to the port city of Campeche on the Gulf of Mexico.

DAY 8

CAMPECHE – UXMAL – MERIDA (B)

City tour Campeche including its typical fortifications. Continue your guided Mexico tour to Uxmal, once an important Mayan trading place. Visit the Pyramid of the Magician, Nunnery, Governors Palace. Afternoon transfer to Merida, the state capital of Yucatan. Enjoy the lively colonial city on a walking tour around the Zocalo. 

 

 

DAY 9

MERIDA – CHICHEN ITZA – CANCUN (B)

Departure from Mérida to Chichen Itzá. Guided tour of the biggest and most visited Mayan site Chichen Itza. You’ll see its famous Kukulkan pyramid, Temple of the Warriors, Ball Court, and Observatory. Continue to Cancun. End of your guided Mexico tour.
