About Nicaragua

Nicaragua has everything from amazing surfing and ziplining to horseback riding, to cultural tours. Many of the beaches are totally unspoiled. The people are amazingly friendly and eager to show off their heritage and history.

Granada is one of Latin America’s most beautiful cities and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Founded in 1524 on the shores of vast Lake Nicaragua, this ancient town is full of history and Spanish colonial charm. The city also makes a great base for exploring the surrounding area, with volcanos, beaches, national parks, and the incredible archipelageo of Las Isletas de Granada all within easy reach.

DAY 2

GRANADA: LAS ISLETAS KAYAK ADVENTURE & GRANADA CITY TOUR (B)

In the morning, explore the stunning Las Isletas archipelago by kayak, along with an experienced local guide. Spot birds and other wildlife and pass local fishing communities. In the afternoon, visit the historic center on foot and by classic horse-drawn carriage. You will even climb a bell tower and enjoy spectacular views over the city, Lake Nicaragua, and Mombacho volcano.

DAY 3

MOMBACHO VOLCANO & CANOPY + LAVA NIGHT TOUR AT MASAYA VOLCANO (B)

Today you will explore the surrounding volcanoes. In the morning, have fun with a hiking tour at Mombacho Volcano. The well-kept Crater Trail (1.5 km) leads you around the crater through the dense cloud forest. After, you will enjoy a zip lining tour. The canopy tour consists of 11 zip lines and 17 platforms. All guests are accompanied by an expert instructor and provided with high-quality equipment. Late in the afternoon head to Masaya volcano for a night tour, where you will be able to admire the lava lake in Santiago crater.

DAY 4

TRANSFER TO OMETEPE ISLAND (B)

Transfer to San Jorge port, boarding point for the ferry to Ometepe. Upon your arrival, you are transferred to your hotel.

Isla de Ometepe is made up of two imposing volcanic cones rising out of western Lake Nicaragua. Ometepe has been inhabited for thousands of years due to its fertile volcanic soils. Most travelers come here for the sandy beaches, clear waters, diverse wildlife, and stunning scenery, with numerous forests, waterfalls, and springs in the island’s center. Ometepe is beautiful, unique and one of Nicaragua’s lesser-known highlights.

DAY 5

OMETEPE ISLAND TOUR (B/L)

Your local guide will meet you at your hotel for a visit to the unique and wonderful Ometepe Island. The tour starts with a visit to Finca Magdalena, a working community-run coffee plantation where you can meet some of the locals and see how they live and work. You’ll continue to the Charco Verde Nature Reserve and Chico Largo lagoon, a mystic place that has inspired local legends. After, you will visit a site where you can see artifacts from the island’s original, Pre-Columbian inhabitants. The tour finishes with a trip into the forest to see the spring at Ojo de Agua, where you can take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear water.

DAY 6

OMETEPE ISLAND (B)

Day at leisure.

Enjoy the hotel or the beach at Lake Nicaragua. Or explore the surroundings on your own.

You could even climb Concepcion Volcano!

DAY 7

TRANSFER TO LAGUNA DE APOYO (B)

Board the ferry back to San Jorge port and continue to Apoyo lagoon for an afternoon at leisure.

Formed some 20,000 years ago, this giant volcano crater lake is one of Nicaragua’s most beautiful natural landmarks. Tropical dry forests surround crystal-clear waters, making it a place of great serenity and incredibly diverse wildlife, including iguanas, hummingbirds, and howler monkeys. Although the area is a protected reserve, you’ll find some excellent eco-friendly lodges around the shores of the lake, and there are great opportunities for hiking, swimming, kayaking, and diving.

DAY 8

LAGUNA DE APOYO (B)
