About us

The heart and soul of TropiQ Trips is me – Anja Phillips. As a young girl, I already dreamt of traveling the world. Growing up in Communist East Germany, with no travel options, the dream became a reality when the wall came down in 1989. After high school, I spent a year in the US as an Au Pair, looking after children, on Nantucket Island, MA.

While completing my studies in Business Management and Tourism in Germany, I interned at travel companies in San Francisco and New York. After the US, I spent a year working and traveling in Australia. When I returned, I joined a German cruise line, working as a Shore Excursion Manager as we sailed through the Baltic, Mediterranean, and Caribbean Seas, and all the way down to the Antarctic Peninsula. Yes, I have been to all continents!

Experience

Just as I was thinking about settling down in Berlin, Germany, I was offered the opportunity to work as the Sales & Product Manager for a destination management company in Panama, Central America! And that is where I have worked for many years and how I came to know and love Latin America! Living and working in Panama gave me a whole new insight into and understanding of the life and cultures of the people in Latin America.

During my time there, I traveled across Central and South America and worked closely with travel agencies in each country, building the contact network I have now.

After meeting my South African-born husband in Panama – on the breathtakingly beautiful San Blas islands (Guna Yala) – I moved back to the US with him. We now live outside of Atlanta, Georgia. And I have turned my passion for Latin America into my first company and dream job: creating unique itineraries for my customers and working closely with my partners in the countries I have come to love.
