IMPORTANT NOTE about the San Blas Islands (Guna Yala):
LOCATION:
The breathtakingly beautiful San Blas Islands are an autonomous region that consists of 365 small palm-lined islands, of which 49 are inhabited. They lie off the north coast of the Isthmus of Panama, east of the Panama Canal. The comarca Guna Yala along the Caribbean coast of Panama is home to the indigenous Guna people.
Due to its secluded location, it is a perfect spot to relax and take a break. Some islands are tiny, with little more than a dusting of sand and a few palm trees. Others have small shacks or basic huts, while a few are more developed and home to large Guna communities with their own schools and churches.
ACCOMMODATION:
The traditional thatch huts are VERY RUSTIC with no private bathrooms available. The huts face the sea and clear water surrounds the small island that offers shared rooms. While we try to book the desired room configuration, due to the nature of management by the unconventional Guna people and availability, we cannot guarantee it. You might have to share a room with someone else in your group – there are just a few cabanas on the island that sleep 2-8 people each and have sand or wooden floors.
All bathrooms are shared and often separate from the accommodations. There are several toilets and showers shared among guests. Facilities are VERY basic, electricity is often available in the restaurant and is usually enough to charge phones/cameras. Bring a battery pack if you can.
MEALS:
Meals are simple and mostly consist of fresh fish and rice. We recommend taking snacks and water with you as well as a towel.
While this might sound like too much of an adventure for some, trust me when I say that this will be one of the most amazing experiences of your life. And after one night of adventure, you will be back in civilization full of unforgettable memories.
What our travelers say about us:
Making Your Travel Plans
Because we limit our group tours to a small number of attendees, to ensure a more personal and intimate experience, our trips will only go ahead if we reach the required minimum number of guests.
1. Your trip will be confirmed when minimum numbers are reached, at the latest by the final balance payment date 60 days prior to trip departure.
2. If the trip is canceled by us, a full refund will be issued and a check will be sent to you (minus any cc or wire fees) within 14 days of the tour cancellation. Alternatively, you can choose to allocate any payments you have made to secure a spot on another trip date. We will also be happy to create a tailor-made Panama tour for you.
3. We advise that you do not book your international flights until the trip has been confirmed by us, latest 60 days prior to departure. We are not in a position to compensate for travel arrangements booked before the trip has been confirmed.
4. Extra time in a destination outside of the tour start and end date, is at your own expense. If you arrive before or after our designated check-in/transfer has been arranged, we can provide suggestions for ways to enjoy your time. We can also make arrangements for additional stays before/after your trip.
5. Passports must have a minimum of 3 months validity at the time of departure from Panama, however, we recommend ensuring there is 6 months validity remaining on your passport. Please make sure you check your current passport and renew it if necessary.
6. Visas may be required for entering Panama, and are at your own expense. Panamanian visas are not required for visitors who hold a valid passport from the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and most European countries.
Payments
Trip payments are split into 2 installments: a deposit to reserve your spot on the tour and a final payment for the balance.
- Deposits – a 25% trip deposit is required to secure your place on our tours
- Balance – the remaining trip balance is required 60 days prior to your trip departure
Payments can be made via check (US only), credit card (a 3% processing fee applies to US cards, 4.5% to others), Zelle, or wire transfer.
